The Republican leader Donald Trump has been nominated for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize. The nomination comes in response due to his role as a brokerage to negotiate diplomatic peace agreement deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates.
The nomination of the US president’s name was submitted by Norwegian parliamentarian Christian Tybring-Gjedde. The right-wing MP told,
“For his merit, I think he has done more trying to create peace between nations than most other Peace Prize nominees.” Tybring-Gjedde applauded Trump in his role to resolve global conflict in the Middle Eastern countries.
He further stated, “No matter how Trump acts at home and what he says at press conferences, he has absolutely a chance at getting the Nobel Peace Prize.”
This is not the first time Trump has been nominated for the prize. In 2018, Tybring-Gjedde submitted his name following his Singapore summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Even last year Trump said that his strenuous effort to improve relations between North Korea and Syria made him a deserving candidate to win the Peace Prize.
There was a huge controversy in 2009 when Former President Barack Obama won the prize just nine months into his first term. There has been a huge uproar in social media since the announcement. One Facebook user said, “Trump already broke our country to pieces and he will get Noble Prize, a nice joke to humanity itself.” While one group contested if Obama can win after mitigating cross border tension, so can Trump.
A Twitterati stated, “Any politician in any national parliament or any random humanities professor anywhere in the world who fancies getting some headlines can legitimately “nominate” someone for the Nobel Peace Prize. It will take five minutes for you to fill my nominations!”
The declaration of the results will be given in Ohio on October 8. The year 2020 has already been intractable, lets see if Trump’s fulfils his wish to become Noble peace prize winner 2021.
