Delhi University will send a direction telling colleges how to fill the remaining seats in the general category.
The problem is that colleges can’t reduce the cut-off as such a move can lead to over-admission in a particular course. According to DU rules, there is no first come, first served policy and colleges have to admit all students who make the cut-off.
The colleges are likely to receive the direction on Saturday, the officer on special duty (OSD) of admissions, Ashutosh Bharadwaj, said.
However, the professor added,if the cut-off is reduced by even 0.25%, several students will be eligible for admission whom the college won’t be able to accommodate.
Vijay Kumar Verma, admission in-charge at¬†Dyal Singh College, said, “DU has been running a special drive for admissions of the SC, ST, OBC and other reserved categories. We still have a few seats in the general category. If we get the direction to start admissions for general category, we will have 0.5% point reduction in cutoffs.”
