On Tuesday, Delhi University in its official statement said that it has received a total of 1324 international applications for admissions for the session 2021-2022. The applications for international students wishing to apply for undergraduate and postgraduate exams had opened earlier in the month of April.
The university’s Foreign Students’ Registry (FSR) admission committee said that applications had been received from 61 countries all over the globe. Maximum applications have been received from the state of Afghanistan with 320 applicants.
Applications have been received across various programmes. The university has received 185 applications from Nepal, 156 from Tibet, 10 from Vietnam, 7 from Thailand and 5 from Sri Lanka. Other applicants are from countries like Bangladesh, Bhutan, Iraq, Japan, China, Cambodia, Indonesia and Jordan amongst others.
As a consequence of Covid, there was a dip in total applicants from 1500 last year.
The admission process had begun in the month of April when DU released an official notification stating ‘Foreign Students’ Registry of DU is inviting applications from foreign nationals for its various programmes of study for the academic session 2021-22…’ The last date of application was 31st May for undergraduate programmes while for postgraduate programmes it was the 29th of June.
For Indian students, the decision regarding CUCET which is pending yet will be taken soon. The acting Vice-Chancellor of DU P.C. Joshi said that –
‘We are hoping for CUCET to become a reality. The admission process is anyway going to get delayed till September, hence a central entrance exam will only bring uniformity in the admission process as boards have already adopted different marking schemes for class 12th students this year.’
For Indian students ,the registration process is likely to begin in the third week of July for undergraduate as well as postgraduate courses. UG-programmes will have admissions on two criteria entrance-based and merit-based.
Students are hoping to have a better understanding of the admission process as the educational life of several is at stake. Meanwhile, for the other years, official notification has been released by the university whereby classes are all set to begin form the 20th of July.
