“The Class 12 Marks” criteria had been dropped for the IITs a few days ago. Now, the Ministry of Human Resource Development has decided to follow the same criteria for the National Institute of Technology (NITs) and the Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs). JEE Main 2020 qualified candidates will now need a passing certificate in class 12 board exam for admission to NIT and CFTI for the year 2020.
📢Attention JEE Main aspirants!
For admissions in #NITs & other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions, apart from qualifying #JEE Main, the #eligibility is to secure a minimum of 75% marks in XII Board exams or rank among the top 20 percentile in their qualifying examinations.

This was informed to all the aspirants via a tweet by Ramesh Pokhriyal.
What are the usual criteria for NTI?
The usual criteria to admissions in these institutes are to qualify the JEE Mains. In addition, the criteria required at least 75% in Xll Board exams or rank among the top 20 percentile in their qualifying examination. This was also mentioned in the tweet by Mr Pokhriyal.
What changed for 2020?
“Due to prevailing circumstances, Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) has decided to relax the eligibility criterion for admissions to NITs and other CFTIs.”, he added. JEE Main 2020 qualified candidates will now only need to obtain a passing certificate in class XII examination. The marks obtained by the candidate will not be considered. There is no minimum limit of marks to seek admissions in the NITs.
On July 17, 2020, the Education Minister announced that the Joint Admission Board (JAB) has decided to relax the eligibility criterion for JEE (Advanced) 2020 qualified candidates. And so, the same criteria are being used for admissions to NITs because of the pandemic.
This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the exams would not be held as per the schedule. The board had to release the result on the basis of a new assessment scheme. The final results have been based on the average marks secured by the students in the papers for which the exam was held. The students who wish to improve their scores will be given a chance later for the same.
The dates for the entrance exam of NIT have also been postponed. The pandemic has led to confusion and postponement in every sphere of life, the education system being a part of the same. This relaxation is because of the same reason, however, only applicable for the year 2020.
