On Tuesday, October 10, 2017, as the Australian Cricket team was returning to the hotel after registering an eight wicket win in the second t20 international against India, a rock was apparently thrown at their bus. Aaron Finch, the Australian opener tweeted a photo of the broken window in the bus. In the tweet, Finch had said, “Pretty scary having a rock thrown through the team bus window on the way back to the hotel!!”.
Neither the BCCI nor Cricket Australia has responded to the incident yet. Later, the Australian captain David Warner retweeted Finch and the all-rounder Glenn Maxwell liked the post.
This defeat in the second T20 international marked the end of an eight-match winning streak for India against Australia in the T20s. The match was held in the Barsapara stadium of Guwahati. This was the first time this stadium was holding an international match and this T20 international was the first international cricket match in Guwahati in seven years.
This loss came as a surprise to the fans. The Indian team has been amazing against the Australian side for quite a time now. India had defeated them 3-0 in the T20 series on their tour to Australia last year. They had also managed a 2-1 win in the test series earlier this year. After that, they defeated the Australian side 4-1 in the ODI series before this ongoing T20 series.
There have been a number of clashes between players from these two sides from time to time. Although the ODI series before this went without any incident, the test series held earlier this year witnessed a series of incidents. One of the major incidents in this series was the Indian Captain Virat Kohli stopping just short of calling the Australian captain Steve Smith a cheat because he had looked towards the dressing room before reviewing a dismissal. People still remember Kohli saying after the final test that he no longer considers the Australians friends.
But despite all this, there has never been an incident that could be called a threat to the security of either of the team members. Recently, Steve Smith had posted on hi social media handles that it has been “an absolute pleasure” for him to be in India for the series. Moreover, the Australian players are really popular among the Indians as well because of their involvement in the IPL, with players like Glenn Maxwell, David Warner and Steve Smith being captains of their IPL franchisees. This is one such incident and the cricketing world awaits a statement from either of the cricket boards and the ICC.
