It’s 2021, which means 2020 is over! Last year was a roller coaster ride for everyone. But with a new year, it’s important to make new beginnings. So lets start this year with some new things in our routine, to make it all the way better then what we want it to be!
“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late to be whoever you want to be. I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and if you find you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start over again.”
– F. Scott Fitzgerald
I came across this quote on my farewell. Since then it’s been a warm reminder on bad days. This might be saved on your Instagram like a hundred other quotes. We just love some lines and can’t get over them. Every time I read a quote, I tend to live it. But we forget all these lines in a few minutes. Hence, a quote diary!
You can call it whatever you want. Just write down the lines that make you feel alive (and the source). These words should be everything you are or aspire to be. You can read them again anytime you want and discover yourself again!
Give your devices a makeover
A new year does not have to be about being disciplined. Nor should it be about starting a harsh or a perfect life but rather about working on ourselves. However, one thing you must do is clean your gadgets. They are probably full of useless pdfs and images after the exams! So just delete all of it. When we say clean, don’t forget to clean the screen. Give your device a complete makeover with a new wallpaper and everything. Make it very you!
Cartoons, movies and nostalgia
For many of us, the new year doesn’t mean parties or documentable get-togethers. But that should never stop you from celebrating and feeling good. Or if you are scared at the thought of how this year will turn out when you already don’t feel good, just take a break. How about against popular opinion, you start with something old and familiar? Watch your all-time-favourite movies. Here are some you will definitely love:
- Yeh Jawaani Hae Diwaani
- Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
- Home Alone series
- Hera Phera and Phir Hera Pheri
While people can have different feel-good movies, we all have one thing we absolutely love and miss – cartoons! Don’t shy away from watching Noddy, Richie Rich or Dragon Tales. Some days, all you need to do is watch Oswald, sing and feel nostalgic while you just wrap yourself in a blanket.
More than chai Time with family
Remember when Naina said this line? “All we wanted to do was talk to our classmates about the fun we had in our coaching classes. Maybe even ask our mom to tell those old childhood stories again. Sometimes all we need is our people to talk about the same old memories.” Keeping this in mind, a “rule” that we all must abide by this year is: Reduce screen time and increase family time. However, one thing a lot of us find missing in our family is a pet. Your parents might not allow you to get a dog/cat but you can always get a plant. While this can sound like a bad idea, it isn’t really. Ask any plant parent about the pleasures of seeing them grow and blossom, you’ll choose to be one yourself!
Find yourself a new friend in books
Another habit that can really help you is reading books. Start slow if you haven’t read any books before. Pick a genre that you think you will enjoy and then find an apt book for yourself. However, my personal recommendation that Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner.
Mental health checks with Journalling
The year 2020 made all of us realize how important it is to take care of our mental health. So a small step daily can help us keep our emotions in check. All you need to do is take a diary and start writing. This is what journalling is about! Write of just about anything that bothers you or that made you happy, There are no rules or format in freestyle journalling, just spill whatever is on your mind. You could also write about your strengths, weakness, reasons why you are proud of yourself. Writing and expressing yourself can help you understand yourself in a much better way. Additionally, you can come across many findings, like your progress or why you aren’t able to keep your resolutions.
Realistic Resolutions and plan your year your way
If you are not able to keep your resolutions then there might be things you want to reconsider. Be practical and make a realistic resolution. Plan and work accordingly. However, if you still find yourself unable to keep your resolutions for 2021 then take a break. Write down the possible reasons. Make a new resolution and work on how to keep it. It’s okay if you choose to do something completely different. But your motto for this year and years to come should be:
The only way to start a new year is to realize that you can start all over again- any day, any minute and any second.
